Origin

Chinese Giant is an old American bell pepper, credited by the Vegetable Cultivar Descriptions compendium to Burpee as breeder and seller, and described there as an open-pollinated heirloom with fruit about 100 by 100 mm on a plant 60 cm tall. The name refers to size, not origin. The shops give the fruit as larger still, 6 inches tall by 4 1/2 inches across at True Leaf Market and 5 to 6 inches deep and wide at Tomato Growers Supply, dark green ripening to red on a compact, bushy plant. True Leaf Market lists 73 to 90 days from transplant; Tomato Growers Supply gives 75.
