Origin
Lilac Bell is a sweet bell pepper grown for its color: the fruit sets lavender and later ripens to red. True Leaf Market sells it as an open-pollinated heirloom Capsicum annuum with no heat, 70 to 80 days from transplant, and gives the fruit as 4 1/2 inches long and 3 1/2 inches wide with three or four lobes, on a plant 24 to 36 inches tall. It also lists resistance to tobacco mosaic virus. The Vegetable Cultivar Descriptions compendium has a lavender bell called Lilac from the seed company Northrup-King, but whether the shops' open-pollinated Lilac Bell is the same pepper is not documented, so this record does not borrow that entry and gives no origin.
