Origin

Mucho Nacho is the jumbo jalapeno. The Vegetable Cultivar Descriptions compendium records it from Burpee in 1999 as an F1 hybrid jalapeno type, thick walled, green to red, slightly hotter than other jalapenos, on exceptionally vigorous plants with very high yields at 72 days to harvest. Tomato Growers Supply describes the same pepper at about 100 mm long, wider and heavier than a standard jalapeno, and Sandia Seed puts the heat at 4,500 to 8,000 Scoville heat units. The size is the selling point: thick enough to stuff without the walls collapsing. Sandia Seed describes the flesh itself as thick and dark green, which is what a cut pod shows at the green stage.
