Origin
Indigo Apple was selected and stabilized by Brad Gates at Wild Boar Farms in Napa, California, from a cross originally made by PKS Heirlooms (one parent is OSU Blue); Wild Boar Farms introduced it commercially in 2013 at the F5 generation. It belongs to the anthocyanin group that followed Indigo Rose, scaled up to cocktail size. As with the rest of the group, the purple shoulders develop well before the fruit is ripe and the shaded underside is the reliable cue.
