Origin

Mountain Magic is the F1 hybrid of NC 2 CELBR (a large-fruited line with early blight resistance and the Ph-2/Ph-3 late blight resistance genes) and NC 2 grape (a compact indeterminate grape line with the ripening-inhibitor gene for long shelf life), released by Randy Gardner's program at North Carolina State University. It is the usual recommendation for gardeners who keep losing crops to late blight, and the fruit is highly resistant to cracking through wet weather that splits most cocktail types.
