Origin

Gypsy was bred by Petoseed and released in 1980 under the code PSX 4076. The Vegetable Cultivar Descriptions compendium records it as a compact, early hybrid with sweet, elongated, thick-fleshed fruit that ripens from light greenish yellow to red, carrying resistance to tobacco mosaic virus and adapted to a wide range of conditions. The compendium lists Romanian Sweet as the closest comparable cultivar. It was an All-America Selections winner in the year of its release.
