Origin

Amish Paste is a family heirloom traced to Amish farmers in Medford, Wisconsin, and said to go back to the 1870s, though it was "discovered" near Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where Tom Hauch of Heirloom Seeds obtained it and shared it with the Landis Valley Museum. It entered the Seed Savers Exchange Yearbook in 1987 and has since been added to Slow Food's Ark of Taste. It is larger and less uniform than Roma, with a pointed blossom end, and juicier and seedier than a true paste type, with enough flavour to be worth slicing, which makes it the usual answer for someone who wants one variety that both cans well and tastes like something.
